Good Shepherd Traveling Quilt

Purpose

Mennonite Central Committee is restoring hope to vulnerable children who have been abandoned, abused, refugees or who have lost their families due to the HIV virus. “I understand now that I can do many things with my life.” quotes Musafiri of Rwanda, a graduate of an MCC sponsored program.

With your help, children around the world will be housed, clothed and educated, providing a new beginning for their lives.

The Good Shepherd quilt will travel among many relief sales in the United States and Canada. The quilt will not be sold but will serve as a symbol of love to raise donations to help MCC provide children with a chance for a better future.

Lisa Brady, assisted by Sheryl Shenk, of the Springdale Mennonite Church of Waynesboro, Virginia, designed and created the original Good Shepherd quilt as a love offering for the Springdale Church where it hangs today.

This pattern was duplicated to be donated as another love offering to the work of Mennonite Central Committee (mcc.org) through the Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale in Iowa City. Two ladies performed the appliqué and another lady hand-quilted the piece. The 84 year-old woman who appliquéd the border had never become a Christian and the stories of the Bible displayed around the border warmed her heart. A friend held her hand afterward as she lay dying, knowing the message of God’s Love had become real to her while she sewed.

The friend watched her slip away with a smile on her face, having accepted God’s Love
