Children’s Festival 2010 Fact Sheet

 Booths

·        Please register your booth by June 1!  Contact Children’s Festival Chair, Sandy Robertson
(605-624-3197), as soon as possible.  There is limited space!

     ·        Set up:  Friday, July 23, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena.

      ·        Operation Hours:  Saturday, July 24, 2010 from 10 a.m. (or when the Kids’ Stuff Auction concludes) to 4 p.m.  Be sure to be at the festival by 9:30 a.m. so you can enjoy the Kids’ Stuff Auction.  It will be great fun!

     ·        If you need special accommodations for your booth such as electricity, please notify us immediately so we can make the necessary arrangements.

 ·        There will be a prize awarded to the best themed booth.  Don’t miss out!

      ·        Booths should be prepared for 200 people if prizes or crafts are being offered.  There are many options if your group needs help coming up with prizes or craft supplies.  Don’t be hesitant to ask local businesses or church members to help sponsor the booth either by donating cash or items.  (Sam’s Club, Dollar General, and Oriental Trading are great places to investigate.)  If you need additional help, please contact the festival chair.  We will make every effort to help.  Don’t let a lack of funds prevent your group from participating.

     ·        We still need everyone to collect old boots (not just cowboy boots) to use for activity booths and decorations for the festival.  If you have a supply of boots that your group will not be using, please let Sandy Robertson know so others can use the boots.

    ·        Needing ideas for a booth? Familyfun.com has great ideas for crafts.  For games, think outside the boot.  Boots, skateboards, balls, and beanbags can all be used to make challenging games. The United States Geological Survey website (http://education.usgs.gov/common/primary.htm#earthquakes) has great ideas and activities relating to earthquakes.

 Penny Power Ideas

·        Use old boots to collect pennies.  This can be a reminder that people often loose their homes, clothes and shoes during an earthquake and that the least we can do is give our pennies to help.  Also, you can remind the kids of how we will be “Shaking in Our Boots” at the Children’s Festival and all the fun that is in store for them.

 ·        Use the Spring 2010 issue of “Hello” which talks about Haiti and MCC’s earthquake relief.   It has great stories, pictures and challenges.  Contact Elizabeth Janssen (nt@mcc.org) for additional copies.

     ·        Use the story of the Good Samaritan.  Not only did the Samaritan help, but he also used his own money to assure the care for the injured man.

    ·        Utilize the can wrapper created by Elizabeth Janssen (nt@mcc.org) to put on cans children can use to collect pennies.
